How to Add a Sunset Spot to SunsetMap
SunsetMap only gets better because people add to it. If you know a spot that isn't on the map yet, here's exactly how to put it there — it takes about a minute.
Step by step
- Go to the SunsetMap app.
- Look for the Login button and create an account with your email.
- Open the Map view and select + Suggest Spots.
- Click the map at the exact location of your spot.
- Fill in a title, a short description, and a rating.
- Choose whether to make it public using the checkbox — see the note below before you do.
- Click Submit. That's it — it's on the map.
Before you make a spot public: double-check the location you've dropped the pin on. Once marked public, a spot is visible to everyone using SunsetMap — so make sure it's somewhere you're genuinely happy to share, and that access (private land, permits, closing times) is something you've actually checked.
What makes a submission useful
- Parking or the nearest access point.
- Any gates, fees, or opening hours.
- Which direction the view actually faces.
- Anything that could go wrong in the dark — steps, drops, tides.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to add a sunset spot?
Yes — sign up with your email from the map view. It takes a minute and means your spots are saved to your account, not lost if you close the tab.
Can I keep a spot private instead of sharing it?
Yes. When you add a spot, you choose whether to make it public. Leave the public box unchecked to keep it visible only to you.
What should I include in the description?
Anything the next person would want to know: how to get there, where to park, whether there's a gate or fee, and roughly how open the western view is. The more specific, the more useful it is to someone finding it on the map.
